Disclaimer: While we continually update the rules and FAQ to reflect community needs, we cannot possibly record every expected rule. Therefore the moderators will use their discretion with the above rules. In other words, because it “wasn’t in the rules” is not a reason to disrupt the room or ignore a moderator’s request. Thanks for reading and we’ll see you in chat!
:bulletgreen: All complaints must be directed to Thumbshare via a note. If you disagree with a kick or ban do not argue with the moderator, instead send a note to Thumbshare describing your concerns (only the founders will view your note). Commenting on, or noting a Founder's, Operator's, or Moderator’s personal account with your complaint will be ignored, and it is considered harassment in most cases. This may result in an immediate and permanent ban depending on your actions. If you would like to make a suggestion or let us know how we’re doing please visit our Trivia Comments and Suggestions Forum or note Thumbshare. We read and discuss every constructive suggestion.

Everything in #Trivia is logged.

:bulletgreen: Do not attempt to moderate the room when moderators are present. Doing so may result in a kick or a ban. If you have an issue with a player explain it in a note to *Thumbshare.

:bulletgreen: Be considerate with your language, don't be an annoyance to others, and keep it a fun environment.

:bulletgreen: All discussions should be directly related to the trivia chat and/or questions. General chatting beyond greetings should be directed to #ThumbsShare or #TriviaTalk. Sometimes when the room is less active than normal some conversation may be permitted. Moderators will decide when general chat needs to transition to the rooms mentioned above.

:bulletgreen: Idling is not allowed to ensure the game proceeds fluently. Idling for more than 15 minutes will result in a kick. Multiple kicks or continual idling will result in a temporary ban.

:bulletgreen: Limit your answers to three guesses, this allows for a fair chance for others to guess as well as preventing spam of wild guesses. In questions where answers are provided within the question (such as an option of 3 years) answers will be limited to two guesses. Finally, in True/False questions answers will be limited to one guess.

:bulletgreen: Using search engines such as Google is strongly discouraged, as it gives users an unfair advantage over other players. Consistent suspected use of search engines may result in a kick or ban. Players accusing other players of Googling in the room may also be kicked or banned.

:bulletgreen: Do not steal answers from other players.
:bulletyellow: Definition: Stealing is when a player types the correct answer when only 4 or 5 seconds before someone else has typed the correct answer, but has made a spelling/grammatical error or is missing a simple article (Beatles vs The Beatles). Taking an answer while players are attempting to help the player correct the error is an example of stealing. If you've completed the allotted number of guesses before fixing your grammatical error you may still attempt to fix the error, however the period to claim stealing has passed.

We ask that you attempt to help the player find the correct answer until they run out of guesses. We realize that sometimes it is difficult to track other users answers and also that some of you may have a bit of a lag. We strongly request that you attempt to monitor this and not steal answers. If players continually steal answers, for whatever reason, they may be kicked or banned from the channel.

:bulletgreen: Consistent improper tagging may lead to a ban. See the #Trivia FAQ for details on how to tag properly.

:bulletgreen: Do not ask A/S/L or any variations of this. Such as: How old is everyone. You may ask one (i.e. location) as long as it fits into natural conversation and is aimed at one person in particular.

:bulletgreen: Bans in #Trivia result in bans in #ThumbsShare & #TriviaTalk as well. If you were banned, do not create multiple accounts and/or come in on your other existing accounts. You cannot avoid a ban. If you are caught doing so, you will be banned on all accounts, and the ban will be lengthened or, most likely, made permanent.

:bulletgreen: All bots (with the exception of Thumbbot and MNBot) and most scripts are not allowed in #Trivia without prior permission from a founder. If you are unsure if your script is allowed ask us!

:bulletgreen: Do not put moderators on /ignore or use any script/addition to auto ignore moderators. This obviously prevents us from moderating your behavior in the chat and leaves us with no choice but to remove you from the chat room.

:bulletgreen: #Trivia is English only. Please refrain from speaking in other languages. This rule has been enacted to make moderation possible in all instances, as moderators obviously cannot moderate a language they cannot understand.

:bulletgreen: If problems arise and for some reason there is no moderator in the room consult a moderator in #ThumbsShare for assistance. If you cannot locate a moderator send a note to Thumbshare with a detailed description of the issue, including direct quotes and the time (as well as your time zone).

:bulletgreen: Note: The Moderators will use their discretion in the above category of Chatting/General Conduct in #Trivia.

:bulletgreen: The llama emote is not allowed in #Trivia.

:bulletgreen: Limit checking trivia scores to, at the very least, every ten minutes. Also, do not check scores in the middle of a questions.

:bulletgreen: Do not post an excessive amount of emoticons in one line, or repeatedly post emoticons. Do not use #Trivia to test emotes. Emote spamming slows down the room considerably.

:bulletgreen: Avoid excessive shouting (use of all-caps) [example], excessive use of bold/italics/underline [example], excessive word streeeeeeeetching [example] or flooding (continuous posting of repetitive text) [example] in #Thumbsshare. Flooding is defined as any rapid or high-volume posting. This includes but is not limited to thumbnails, or text.

:bulletgreen: Do not use bold or underline as that is reserved for mod announcements and bot questions.

:bulletgreen: Do not use #Trivia to advertise your chatroom, community, news article, or website without the permission of a #Trivia Founder. To promote the exposure of your userpage/gallery visit #ThumbsShare.

:bulletgreen: Do not post unnecessary clutter such as song or movie quotes.

:bulletgreen: Note: The Moderators will use their discretion in the above category of Spamming.

:bulletgreen: Limit the use of profanity (as there are players of all ages), racist slurs, anti-Semitic or other derogatory remarks about philosophies and religions, as well as highly offensive and hostile remarks based on gender or sexual preference will result in a kick and/or ban from #Trivia.

:bulletgreen: Threatening, directly insulting, or harassing your fellow chatters is prohibited and can result in an immediate ban from the chatroom (this rule extends to journals related to events/deviants in the chatroom).

:bulletgreen: Inciting others to break rules is prohibited and can result in an immediate ban from the chatroom.

:bulletgreen: Do not post links which contain viruses, pornography, auto devwatches, logouts, or favs, or any material that violates our rules or deviantART’s policy. Do not post links in general unless they are addressed to one person and do not fit in any of the above descriptions. Users may be kicked or banned for posting any link to an outside website that is offensive or disruptive to the room. Do not post links which supply personal information (age, location, etc).

:bulletgreen: We do not allow any illegal activities. We are not responsible for anything you say in the chatroom, or for any consequences that arise from what you say. If you break the law, you alone will be responsible for the consequences.

:bulletgreen: Abide by deviantART’s Etiquette Policy.

:bulletgreen: Note: Breaking any of the rules in this category will result in an immediate ban

:bulletgreen: We caution you against giving out personally identifiable information (such as social security numbers, credit card numbers, names and addresses, telephone numbers and driver license numbers) to strangers online, as this information may be used for illegal or harmful purposes. Using players personal identifiable information in the room without their permission will result in a ban.
